Leaking Lewmar Opening Ports

I have a 1996 Oceanis 400. We love the boat, but we have had consistant problems with the Lewmar ports (on the side of the cabin) leaking. The ports are bedded correctly and do not leak around the port. They leak because we are unable to get the seal to stop the water. We have replaced the seals, but have not been able to stop the leaks. Is there any big secret to this? We are very dicouraged to have a boat worth this much and we can't keep water out of it. We would sure like to hear that there is someone out there that has solved this problem. We have gotten zilch out of Beneteau. Steve Day

check screws

I suspect you have already checked the tightness of the screws but just in case...... - On my B331 the windows leaked until I checked the tightness of the socket head screws on the perimeter of the inside frame - even though the outer frame was well sealed and the lexan was pulling tight to the rubber seal I still had water coming in. The screws looked tight but when I checked them they were easily turned and moved a fair bit before the window was tight. Since then I have had no further leaks although a bit of water may come in to the interior if the boat is in rough conditions where the water pounds the window.

Lewmar portlite leak hints

I have a similar problem. I've replaced the gasket, replaced the o rings on the latches, and re-bedded the entire assembly. I'm convinced that water is entering from somewhere above, travelling down between the cabin headliner and the cabin ceiling, hitting the frame of the portlight, and leaking in. This season, I'll be searching for a point of entry from above. Lewmar tech support was more helpful than Beneteau.

lewmar ports

yes - not impressed at all with these as all the alloy rivetheads were untreated and turned to dust. had to drill them all out and replace with stainless screws. regards, mark

Grime and Dust?

I've had the same leak on my B331. The culprit was just dirt gathered around the gasket. So, the dirt trapped between the gasket and the glass caused water to come in. Did you try cleaning the entire gasket as well as the glass?

Leaking ports on 35s5

I also have leaking opening ports port and starboard. I know that it is not coming from above because they are set in a plexiglass window and can see their is no water trail. I opulled out the subber O ring and caulked, but is still leaks. I plan to pull the entir assembly out, buy new ones and re-install.
