Leaking Icebox drain

Hi folks, I'm new to this forum, as I am also new to being a Hunter owner. Recently purchased a 1983 27' TM. While chasing down various minor leaks, a couple in particular are becoming somewhat difficult to get to. 1) The drain hose near the actual drain of my ice box is leaking, causing about 20% of the draining water to end up below the bottom drawer of the galley. But, how on earth do I get access to it?? I can reach my hand under the ice box through the bottom drawer in the galley and just barely touch the hose as it comes out of the insulation. Any advise on how to gain access? 2) Also, any advise on how to remove and reseal the teak hand rails on the deck? Since there is a liner seperating the actual deck from the cabin, I'm left scratching my head on how to get to those bolts. Thanks for any help you can give me! Kevin

Seal the drain!

1. Those ice box drain hoses are inaccessible on most Hunters. In addition to draining the water from the box, they also drain the cold air from the bottom - like leaving the refrigerator door open a crack. The drain water also takes on a special smell once it gets into the bilge. I placed a small cork in the drain fitting inside the box . After two (warm) days I have most of my ice intact and about two cups of cold water in the bottom of the box, which I remove with a sponge. 2. Check the archives for advice on the toerail.

Pump to sink

Our h27 has a handpump/faucet mounted on the sink. That way we can leave the ice water in the box while it is helping to cool, then easily pump it out when we leave the boat. In any case, it never gets into the bilge. Short of that, Tesoriero's solution is a good one. David Lady Lillie

Awesome ideas! Many thanks!

Thanks David and J. Tesoriero! I had been eying some corks here at home, so I'm glad to hear I wasn't far off on a solution. Pumping into the sink completes the scene. Thanks again! Kevin
