1984 222, This weekend I noticed what I believe to be the Center Board Rope Rubber Tube is leaking. Upon removing the teak floor panel and just under the cooler area there is a section of rubber tubing about 6 inches long with hose clamps that is leaking. I also noticed the steel tube (which is coated) may be rusting. Although I am not sure since I have not removed the rubber tube yet. My question is, can I remove and replace the rubber tube with the boat in the water and are there any tricks to completing this process that I should be aware of. Thank

Scott - I haven't replaced the tube on a 222, so I don't know with certainty, but I think that the bottom of that tube is below the water line, so if you pull it you will flood the boat. You could conceivable pull it, plug it temporarily, then replace the hose but it would make me nervous. I would have the boat hauled. Are you sure you just don' t need to tighten the hose clamps? Look for the easy answer before you make life hard. :) Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Take it out if you do replace it

It sounds like the same config as the Oday23, and the hose is below the waterline. I recently had a hole in my hose, and, as Justin mentioned, it flooded our boat.
