Recently we bought a 1994 Hunter 26. On this moment we have serious problems with water leakage in the mast area. All around the mast area there is leaking water on the table which is overfloated within minutes so that the floor of the cabin after one week is with nearly .5" of water. From the outside there is no visible damage or hole. Can anybody give me a good tip where to search for. WKR Etienne Catoire Netherlands PS Sory that my Englisch is not perfect.

Some things to check

My ’98 Hunter 26 had some leakage near the mast area – though not as bad as you describe. The light over the table would fill up with water. The dealer re-sealed the plate on the deck that the mast attaches to (I know there must be a name for that). You may also want to reseal any wiring plugs in the area (mast light for instance). Under the mast, the line for the centerboard enters the tube that supports the table. If the area between the tube and the deck is not sealed – it would leak. Lastly, they make “boots” that wrap around the base of the mast – thought I would personally rather know where it’s leaking from.

Mast Plate Leaks

Had the same problem a couple of years back on our H26. Talked w/ Hunter and they suggested resealing around the plate on deck that the mast attaces to. I sealed all around it w/ 3M 5200 and have had no leaks since. Seems to be a good fix and doesn't take a lot of time to accomplish. Happy sealing! Walt

Center Board line

Same problem.. had to seal the pulley area, and compression post transition area,.. where the line enters under the mast for the center board, other then this, perhaps the mast plate, however I would think it would be visable if the seal was gone, cracked, etc..

mast leaks

Check your mast next time its down. there may be places where water is getting in and running down the inside of the mast and pooling at the base. Make sure there is a drip loop where the VHF or any other wires at the mast head. And don't apologize for your English because our Dutch ain't so good, either!

leaks

ditto on the chain plates, I have had many a boat and the shrouds always act like a funnel because the water simply drains right down them by surface tension. Same thing would happen in the case of the mast. Its amazing how small the cracks / leaks even need to be to let in a whole lot of water. A little dap will do ya.
