I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Last night was a heck of a night. I was up all night last night because of the weather that moved through the ancorage in Deltaville (I am in Jackson Creek). The wind was crazy. I found that one of my lexan windows was leaking, like a running faucet, and a cushion in my salon got really wet. That window had never leaked before (not at all). I am thinking that when I beat to windward in rough seas the other day it may have knocked some things loose. I went outside, in the rain, and checked the screws that hold the window to the frame. All of the top screws were loose. I tightened them and I noticed that one particular screw is starting to strip. My question is for anyone with a Catalina, around the early 90's vintage, that has taken the lexan windows out and re-sealed them. How hard of a job is this? What calking material did you use? Did you have any screws that had stripped and if so how did you fix that problem? Thank you in advance for any further information that you can provide me. Just a side note to this story, I discovered that I was aground at 4 in the morning. I waited until it got light and I was able to take the ancor rode and my primary winch and get off of the bar. It was a lot of fun re-setting the hook in 25 knot winds. What a mess and what a night!

Attitude

Bad obsession: You wrote "I was able to take the ancor rode and my primary wench and get off of the bar." You really need to change your attitude towards women. Keeping a "primary" and woman on board implies that you also keep a secondary one too. They must not like that at all. And to call a woman nothing but a "wench" and then use HER, rather than your winch, for a task as hard as pulling the boat off the bar... My god, man, those days passed many years ago! (PS. I hope you don't mind a little kidding.)

It wasn't a laughing matter at the time

Ok...sorry.....I made a few spelling errors. It wasn't a fun thing at the time because I knew that the tide was falling and the wind was blowing really hard.

Hey Bad O- your not being treated very well!

You aground in a storm, and in retelling the tale you make a few typing mistakes. Not only do you get called on the carpet for it, but to add insult to injury, it's the SECOND time this MONTH you've had to endure the slings and arrows of your "Brethren of the Coast" (Ross called you out for riggers vs. rigors)!! As Rodney Dangerfield used to say, "This is a tough room, really tough"! John- I found your wit very entertaining! (although I'm not sure scolding him was needed- any man with two women deserves what he gets!). Cup

fix holes

I mix a good quality 5 minute epxoy and fill the hole with it useing tooth picks and drill a new pilot hole for the screw size I had good luck with clear outdoor GE window silicon , my deck hatch was leaking and that is the only thing holding in the lexan It required a VERY carefull cleaning of all the old sealer and a good masking tape job IF you dont want to get sealer on places it does not belong :) Tommays

Update

I think that I have found the fix....for now. I went to waste marine and bought some slightly larger screws. They took and I finished them off with lifecalk. It should make the seal much better and keep the rain off of my salon cushions. Guys, I don't want to even go into my month last month. Stress at work, stress at home, and it has been rough. It is nice to just get out and get away from everything. It has gotten bad enough at home that my blood pressure had hit 184/119. I can take a little ribbing from typos but just remember that what goes around comes around!

I feel your pain Bad Obsession

Went through a divorce (she got the boat) and then got deployed to Iraq and mortared every day while working for a total jack a$$ of a boss. These things pass and what does not kill us makes us stronger. Course that is not much solace while you are going through it is it? A very successful person once told me "life is mostly crap, you need to hydroplane over it, not wade through it!" I find that telling myself that "they where abused children" helps keep things in perspective. Just smile and grow yourself. Your bigger than they are.

Hey, Brother Up the Coast...

...watch that blood pressure. Sorry you are having a rough time, but remember to take care of your health. NOTHING is worth more. As one who has to constantly watch BP, cholesterol, and sugar, I know it is difficult sometimes. Hope things get better for you. -Paul

sorry about that

Hey, Bad, Sorry if it came off wrong. I was just trying to add a little humor. Of course, it's easy for me to talk since I never make missteaks.

If you can't find it here by asking

then the C30 website or our C34 'site will find it for you. Here's one from a C34 search on windows - be creative and you'll find lots more ideas. You may also have the older windows with aluminum frames, separate answer, see the C30 website, they're the experts on THAT particular bit o'nonsense.

If'n you're still in D'ville ...

... go over to Norton's Yacht Sales and ask to speak to the shop foreman, Craig Beachler. (He's forgotten more than most folks know about sailboats.) He was a great help when we had to reseal the ports on Whisky. He recommended a certain 3M product whose name escapes me. It has held for 4 yrs. now. Mandy at the service desk is great, too, and I'm sure they will be able to help you.

Up the mast he goes

Well we made it to Hampton yesterday and we are in the salt ponds. I am going to run him up the mast today and he went ahead and bought a brand new ancor light. It is probably better that way because he can put it on and not worry about cracking the old fitting and the other problems that can happen when you are messing with an extremely old fitting. I am pretty happy with my fuel consumption (only used 1/4 of a tank so far to make it around 100 miles). I used most of it yesterday because I ran the engine for 3 hours. Thanks for the input and I will keep everyone updated to progress.
