My depth thru hull sounder have a leak, nothing major, but the sealer is always wet or soaked. Any suggestion how to re-seal with out haulout the boat?? Thanks!! AE

doboy

try 5200

it will harden on a wet surface, but you'll have to smear it in good with your fingers to be sure the leak is sealed. You might try going for a swim with a wad of plumbers putty to temporarily stop the leak while the 5200 hardens to keep the water pressure from forcing through.

Haul it

Mojito, You should haul the boat. Through hulls are drilled across the laminate and unless they are sealed with epoxy before your through hull fitting is installed (they rarely are on production boats) then you run the risk of water wicking into the laminate which can increase the likelihood of blisters. I know this isn't the answer you wanted to hear but if you look at it over the long run, a haulout & proper fix of the leak is the cheaper way to go. Just my 2 cents.
