We have an annoying leak that proving hard to track down
When on the mooring the yacht is dry , not a drop of water in the bilges , under motor the boat is also dry
But when under sail we have water coming in .
It must be coming in from an above water fitting but so far it proving very hard to track down

LEAK

Lets nail this thing

Can you determine if the leak is on a particular tack, port or starboard, is the water forward or aft and if you sail in the brine does it taste is it salty...?

Don't get excited, I have no idea but am sure the geniuses out there will be able to help with a little more info.

The water seems to fill the centre bilge , not sure if it happens on both tacks or not , could water run back through the bilge pumps , manual or electric.

Very much doubt that the water would return from the bilge pump however have been known once to be wrong. how much water are we talking about, I know this may be hard to quantify but are we talking much from say half a day's sailing...?

I would shut off the all seacocks except for engine and propshaft for your next sail. Had a problem on my 381 with one of my drain lines leaking

The other thing to remember is that it takes a while for water to migrate out of the grid system and into the bilge. So you may have water coming in from topsides at anchor/dock and is flowing into the grid. Then it doesn't get into bilge until there is pitching and rolling from being under sail.

Stick a water hose in the fitting, turn the tap and see if there is water coming to the bildge. I don't know what prevents water returning back from the bildge pump hose. Is it the pump? I say this because in the past there was always some water coming back to the bildge fter using the pump (the water stuck in the hose i guess) until i installed a non-return valve right after the pump. Problem solved.

Thank you , I think it might be worth fitting non-return valves as you suggested any way , I will try the hose in the skin fitting and see how we go

Afternoon All , just letting you know that the leak has been located.
The bulkhead between the anchor well and the cabin had come away from the hull in one small place , hence only leaking when under sail .
Thank you all for myour help
