I have a 2006 Catalina 16.5 and when I removed it from the water this fall and opened up the drain plug, alot of water came out. Has this happened to anyone else? The areas that I will be checking are:

1. The drain plug itself and its sealing ability
2. How the centerboard is attached to the hull.

Does anyone have a diagram of how the centerboard attaches to the hull and whether that could be an area that could leak?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray

That's not good! I sold my 2004 Capri 16.5 this summer. Even after several months in the water I never had anything come out of the drain.

Centerboard pretty much pops out of the hull. There are 4 screws securing the 2 brackets to the deck. Remove the screws and, with a bit of jiggling, you should be able to lift the brackets and centerboard right out of the well. Be warned that they're not bolted together so they'll want to come loose once you lift it out of the well. Each bracket has a pin that goes into the centerboard - one inside the other, and there's a stainless bushing that the bigger one goes into. Be sure not to drop that bushing into the water!

If you're the original owner I'd think the boat was still under warranty (5 years if I recall?) so maybe run it by your dealer too.

You also might consider joining and cross posting this in the Capri 16.5 group on the yahoo groups board. Someone there will have good advice for you I'm sure.
