Our boat consistently leaks in the side of the forward berth. The previous owners spent money on trying to have it fixed but nothing worked. Now we just shove a towel up along the headliner and wall. We would like to fix this problem permanently but don't now where to start. If anyone has had similar problems with cures, please let me know. Thanks. Susan

Check Another Post

In the "Ask an Owner" forum there is a post with regard to a leak problem in his Hunter 26 with several replies. Date of post was 25 Jan. The leak problems like this can be fairly generic because the similar design and construction.

sounds familiar

I saw another post re: Hunter 33 which said that suspicious water in bilge was coming from the fresh water tank vent. If your water tank is under the v-berth, it is worth checking.

Leak in forward berth

Thanks for your answers to my leak problem. I know the previous owners attached the problem at the toe rail but did not fix it. I'll have the water tank under the V-berth checked. Thanks again and I'll let you know if this fixes the problem. Of course, we're in the middle of a frozen winter and all water has been drained so I probably won't know if its fixed til spring!

Find That Leak

I had a similar problem, on the port side. A clue was that the port cabin light was full of water. Upon removing the forward hatch I found some stress cracks radiating from the back mounting screw holes. I epoxied the cracks, caulked and replaced the hatch. Hasn't leaked since. Sure fire way to find leaks. Make a plywood panel to fit the companionway opening with a cutout to install a leaf blower (blowing in). Seal up the boat best you can (vents, windows, etc). Turn on the leaf blower & using a garden sprayer with soapy water spray down everything on deck and look for the bubbles. If you have a leak it is sure to show up.

Check t anchow well

Had a similar leak portside on my H-27,1980. There was a hairline crack in the anchor well. Repaired with E-pox. It's fine now.
