I am looking at buying an H340 but I have a concern about water on the floor of the v-berth. I think it is rain water coming from the anchor locker. Has anyone had this problem with water making its way from the locker to under the v-berth to the floor of the forward cabin.

There is supposed to be a hole in the anchor locker (either attached to a hose or not) to drain the locker and the locker is supposed to be sealed off from allowing water to go into the forward cabin, or under the forward cabin. I suppose maybe some poorer designs will allow the water to drain to the bilge so that the bilge pump ships it overboard. If water is getting on your forward cabin sole, or the berth, etc. there could be several culprits. I would first consider any deck hardware above, or the toe rail that could be leaking water in. Or hatches, ports, etc. Leaky stanchion bases or the bow rail bases. Sometimes it is hard to find leaks, but once detected and fixed, the problem is over.

On our H340, we have had occasion to have small amounts of water on the V-Berth Floor in the past. At one point I traced it to the dog gaskets on the overhead hatch. When replaced, no more rain water ingress.

Now there is occasionally small amounts from condensation on the underside of the hatch frame during humid/cold conditions.

The anchor locker has a drain to an outlet above the waterline near the bow. Might need to be cleaned out by flushing with hose pressure to relieve dams of mud/etc from the rode. The most likely place for an anchor locker leak would be the gasket under the windlass, unless there is damage/cracks in the locker itself. This is unlikely the source of your problem, however, since leaks would drip on the berth itself, flow down into the forepeak where the fresh water tank is, and flow out to the main bilge under the sole.

If the cabin flooring as been getting wet on your hunter...Better check under the cabin sole to see if a non water proof or the wrong floor was material used for the sub flooring and any construction material used below the water line even bulk heads.

Fill the water tank and see if you get water on the deck. The WEMA level sender that Hunter used in the 336 and at least some of the 340s was a cheap plastic one that eventually breaks off and drops into the tank, leaving a path for water leakage. The shape of the tank is such that the hole for the sender unit is actually below the water level when the tank is full, allowing a dribble of water to spill out, leak out from behind the V berth, and collect on the floor. Its always worst when the tank is full and the boat is rocking a bit due to wave or wind action. Who knows, that may be your problem. Does your level gauge work?

On the floor of the v-berth = water tank

I found that overfilling the water tank led to water on the cabin floor in the v-berth including filling up the non-draining well under the teak/holly piece. I never tracked down exactly where the leak is, just a little more careful to not over fill.

OTOH, water in the forward bilge could be coming from the anchor locker, I had some cracks/thin spots at the very bottom that I epoxied up - no more issue there.

I found I had similar problem years ago. One day While cleaning up in the v birth I was laying on my back looking up with the panel under the anchor locker removed and the hatch above open as I was looking up I saw day light coming from the upper starboard corner of were the locker meets the deck. The was a hole about the size of my fist. Some slacker at the factory had made another screwup. So every time I went to fill my water tank and if I over filled or just got sloppy with hose water would pour down into v-birth unbenounced to me. This explained why I kept finding mould and things wet in the v birth!
