I noticed yellow fluid in the bilge below the Yanmar on my H31. There is a major cut in the belt as well. My assumption is that there is an antifreeze leak. I see some of this yellow dried on the forward portion of the underside of the oil pan. Can anyone help with the possible source of this leak? As long as I have the belts off for replacement, I think I will change the fresh water pump impellar. Your thoughts will be appreciated. Tim

What we did

I dont know the age of your boat but our 2gmf is the same age as our boat, a 1988. I was concerned that the belts were old and the hoses may have never been replaced. I ordered a full set of hoses from our yanmar dealer and replaced them all in about an hour or so. What I found was some loose hose clamps, some hidden splits in hose ends and some hoses that were obviously too old. We had some currosion on some areas of the engine plus a little fluid like you described. after replacement, not a drop! Good luck.

Now that you mention it..

I have the 86 28.5 and had found similar light yellowish residue under the engine. But I'm sure I have green antifreeze. Let us know what results. J. McCue "Safeharbor"

maybe its the tranny fluid?

I just read on in the postings and found another possibility. In my case the yellow could be tranny fluid. J. McCue

Doubt it's transmission..

Guys, if you have the 2GMF, your transmission is filled with the same oil you use in the engine. The yellow stuff sounds more like dried anti-freeze. I'd start by looking at the hoses from that system if I were you... Shambie Huntress H31

Check your coolant hoses...

That feed the hot water heater. My hoses chafed on the liner where they exit the engine compartment....could just be starting to leak.
