Leak above salon table - 40.5

Hi all,

I have a leak from the light fitting just above my salon table - has anyone else had this problem? It starts from the screw that is nearest the hatch so it's not coming from the mast that's for sure - if I unscrew the light fitting it's only wet on that one side.

I believe it started when I lifted the seahood to check the runners but I cannot be 100% sure of this.

Thanks in advance

Guy

I also have a similar leak. I am pretty sure that it is related to the sea hood that covers the organizers. Check that the screws are sealed well. I don't recall if there are any drains, but if so check that they are not clogged.

I had the same leak too. Sea hood was the older type that required the removal of the traveler to get it up. Fixed that with a power saw and some elbow grease. The leak was from the sea hood hold down screws. glob of life-caulk and no more leak. Another possibility is the deck organizers under the hood.

I had a similar leak on my 380. I pulled and rebedded all the deck fittings. I also have two removable panels that cover my organizers and underdeck rigging. I pulled those, filled the holes and then redrilled and rebedded. No leaks now!

Hi all,

I have a leak from the light fitting just above my salon table -...
My recollection of the 40.5 is that the salon table sits just below the mast step, not the traveller and sea hood. Unless I'm mistaken, the leak to which he refers is the ubiquitous mast step leak. Quite common on these boats.

If he's lucky, it can be cured by cleaning the slots in the step plate to facilitate drainage. If not so lucky, stepping the mast to re caulk the cable trunk is needed to stop the leak.

Hi Don

In my first post I mentioned the direction of water travel is not from the mast luckily. I can put my hand in the light fitting hole and feel around as well as where the mast is stepped so I'm 100% it's not from the mast.

I'm pretty sure it's the seahood and was seeing if anyone else suffered the same - thankfully they have.

I appreciate all the responses from everyone and will pull the seahood back up and re-seal the holes when putting it back down and report back :)

As suspected and confirmed by Bill (thank you) it was the sea hood screw holes!

Thanks for the responses
