OK, this is a bit weird! After removing the old water heater from under the nav station, I found 2 lead ingots, each about the size of a large brick, lodged between the nav station and the side of the hull. Really!

Does anyone have any idea why they would be there?

Thanks!

Probably added there as Trim Ballast to compensate for list to the opposite side. My 1990 Hunter 33.5 has a natural 2 to 2-1/2 Degree Starboard List. I put the heavy tool bags and other items on the Port side to compensate some. You want to make sure the lead ingots stay put in heavy seas and high heel angle.

Stranger than the lead ingots is that you had a water heater under your nav table!

Yea, I agree with everyone, huh? My boat list to Strbrd a couple of degrees before I built in a tool box on the floor under the nav station. I put in a lid so things won't go flying, and it raised that part of the floor which I needed to do, because I added a chair at the end of the settee. Anyway, lead ingots, man, I bet they could really do some damage if they get airborn, huh? Probably added by a previous owner?

Well, I'm new to the world of 37-C's, but the lead ingot idea is, I think, both silly and dangerous. Am glad I found them!

The water heater was indeed located under the nav station, but I'm guessing by Ed's comment that the original location may have been somewhere else. I guess that's one of the bright sides of replacing all electrical and plumbing systems - I get to install stuff where I want!

Thanks for your thoughts!

The best lead ingot is a battery. Can't ever have too many. :)

Very funny Stu! And yes Fred, that was not the original location. The original tanks were round, at least in the early years. And they were behind the engine next to the muffler where my second cube-shaped one lives. Picture is sans muffler.
