Lazyjack set up for the Vision & Isomat boom

I just set up the lazyjacks on the boat, & I have a question. From what I can tell from the page in the manual, (and what I did), the single line goes from the forward cleat on the boom up to the block on the wire, down to the boom astern, under and back up to the other block and then down to the boom at the cleat. My question: Does the line astern simply go under the boom and through the floppy u-shaped bale (to hold & locate the line) and then back up? (This seems a little funky to me, because the floppy bale then flops to one side and traps the line, making adjustment difficult.) Similar for the forward point: down from the block and then simply under the boom to the cleat? It's an open cleat, so tie a bowline and that's it? Also, what size line are you using? The manual says something like 3/8" or 1/2", and this seems awefully heavy.. Cheers!

What manual???

Mike, Here's a really dumb question: where did you get that Vision manual? Are they still available? (I hope; I hope...) I've had my boat for 3 1/2 years and figured out everything the hard way. Rodger PS, I've got a lazy cradle on my boat or I'd send you a pix. Sorry.

Well Roger, it is sort of a manual that's...

available. When I got my boat, I received a blue nylon zippered "bag" that had in it a blue 3 ring binder from Hunter. The binder contains a lot of general boating information, a few (<20)pages on Hunter boats and a few (<20) pages specific to the Vision. There are some very schematic diagrams of plumbing & electrical systems. But the BEST part are some pages that concern the Vision rig and line arrangement. These last pages were faxed to her former owner from Hunter, so at the very least, that info should be available. Let me know if you need more detail. Cheers!

Thanks Tom...

Great!!! I'll ring up Hunter on Monday morning and see if they can fax me that data. BTW, I too got a blue zippered nylon pouch like yours and it does have some of the stuff you mentioned in your reply... but nothing on the mast, rigging, lazy jacks, etc. Thanks again, Rodger PS, leaving Dana Point early Tuesday morning for Marina del Rey. Going to do the race to San Diego starting on the 4th. Wish us luck!

Good Luck Roger!

Did you get your blown-out sail replaced? Tale a picture of you & your boat during the race & post it. Us V32 owners need the encouragement! Cheers & Fair Winds!

Yes... I did!

and I'm hoping that deep cut will be be just what I need to sail downwind fast in the typically light air we have around the 4th in Southern California. I did this race 2 years ago on another boat and the the fireworks were awesome from 10-15 miles out. S/B clear again this year... If Geri Conser does this race in the helicopter, I'll be sure to order pix and send them along to HOW. BTW, I called Hunter this morning and Greg in customer Service is faxing that rigging stuff. Thanks for the tip! Best, Rodger

My setup

I use 1/4" line on my 336, just so I can get both ends through the open cleat. 3/8" is too big. I tie them together with a sheet bend to act as a mutual stopper, but two separate knots would work just as well. I loosen and retighten my lazy jacks all the time to get them out of the way for hoisting and to tighten them for a drop. Just cleating them isn't as desirable for me as is having them stopped. And yes, you have it rigged correctly, I think.

Lines & Rigging

Tom, with regard to the following: "But the BEST part are some pages that concern the Vision rig and line arrangement. These last pages were faxed to her former owner from Hunter, so at the very least, that info should be available."... would you fax that information to me? I'd love to see it... yyzcanuck@hotmail.com
