I am looking for some help on purchasing lazy jacks for 89 H30. I see that Harken requires modifying the sail cover but Schaeffer does not. Does anyone have any comments on which installed the easiest and which one works better?

E-Z-JAX

Andrew: Last year I decided to either buy or build a Lazy Jack System to make singlehanded sailing easier. I went with E-Z-JAX. You can see the system deployed aboard my h40 by going to the related Link and scroll down to Sail Accessories. Click the thumbnail to see the deployed system The system comes with all splices. I was designing my own system. Just the hardware, particularly the stainless steel rings, is rather costly at about $100. The system is designed for your vessel. There are no modifications required for your sail cover. There's a link to the vendor on my page. Feel free to contact me directly using the mailto on the related link. Sam

possible alternative

I just put a new main on my Legend 37, and the sailmaker recommended a system that many local sailors have used effectively. He put some loops on the leech, the lower half. I have to install some stainless steel rings on the topping lift, and connect the loops to the rings with light lines that will be tight when the sail lowers. This system supposedly holds the sail effectively without the hassel of lazy jacks. I have lazy jacks now, but am anxious to get rid of them assuming the new system works. Will be a few weeks until I have time to complete the installation.
