I have found a couple pictures and have all the parts ready for when I raise the mast in the yard next week. I am pretty good at the copying the pics but I haven't read any where if it has to go out of the way when sailing. Should it stay connected at the top and drop against the mast and lash down?

Some do, but not necessary. The lines need to be lose enough not to chafe the sail. I found that once they were adjusted I didn't need to touch them. If you raise your sails while heading into the wind the battens will clear without getting hung up.

If you have blocks on the lazy jacks, scrap them and replace them with splice eyes and small S.S. thimbles. Less chafe and slatting on the sail. 3 strand dacron makes nice lazy jacks as it is easy to splice and kind to the sail.

Lazy Jack kits always have blocks but remember that they are put together by companies that are selling hardware.

I bought the Sail Cradle from Sail Care because I didn't want to have to modify my sailcover for permanent lazyjacks. It wasn't designed to be left out while you sail. It didn't take long before I got tired of having to go forward and redeploy the system each time I wanted to raise and lower the mainsail.

I have ended up with a modified system that I can leave deployed while sailing. It takes a couple minutes to connect the lines to the boom, then I can tighten up the system when I want to drop the sail and loosen it for raising all from the comfort of my cockpit.

Ours adjust, but like has been mentioned once set I don't mess much with them.

The combination of the .....

....lazy-jacks and the sail-pack has been great. We love it.

The lazy-jacks....

.... part of the mod is here....

Note that at first I didn't have higher blocks above the spreaders on the mast, but then did add them. I think minus them was ok, but now there is no real downward pull on the spreaders.

We also use a topping lift, so don't use the lazy jacks to hold the boom up. They were simple to install and don't add much time to the setup time coming off the trailer. We don't use the boat for day sails off of the trailer. If we did that I wouldn't use them.

The sail-pack mod is here....

.... and very much worth the effort to do if you are out any length of time.

Also the single line reefing that we did at the same time has worked great in conjunction with the lazy-jacks and sail-pack,

Thanks ... I think I got what I need. What I found was these tiny little blocks, the whole unit is only 1/2" tall I'll try them but if they give me trouble I'll change them out.
