You can make your own with small blocks and line. Easy and much cheaper than picking up one of the pre-assembled sets. Look at 2 attached dwgs. the number of legs will vary with length of boom. 3 work good on my 12' boom. Good luck

Pichin;

I am not sure which boat you have either the 260 or the Hunter Edge 27 which are two different boats. I use to be a Hunter small boat dealer and introduced both boats. I have never been a fan of the lazy jack system if you are trailering either boat as it gets in the way and more time.

Usually when the sail comes down on these two boats, sure the mainsail flops all over but if you know the proper sequence of flaking the mainsail onto the boom, it does not take that much time while the lazy jack does and gets in the way for a small mainsail compared to other larger boats where I can see it works.

As for flaking, start with small folds of the main on top of the boom while pulling it back. You can get by with two ties but better with three. Then put the mainsail cover on and that is it. I never hav figured why folks would want a lazy jack system on a smaller mainsail.

Yes this will bring up some controversy but having done this many times over the years and learning to flake the mainsail properly saves time putting the boat away

I would highly recommend: http://www.ezjax.com Easily stowable for when sailing, or sail raising, etc. ---- especially when using lazy jacks with long or full battens.

Easy to DIY duplicate. Self adjusting for variable boom 'rise' if you use heavy weight 'bungee cord' as the 'final' jack line.

I figure you could use a very simple lazy jack system. My HC 37 with full battened main has only 2 "vertical" lines.

Previously the main sail used to cascade all over the place and with the admiral at the wheel and me alone bringing it down it was a PITA. Usually we bring the sail down just before heading in to the dock. I deploy the lazy jacks just before lowering the main and it keeps everything contained until we are docked and/or anchored and then I go back and secure the main on the boom.

All I have is a sheave on each side of the mast above the cross trees. A line runs up over that sheave (on each side of the mast) and then down to a ring. That ring has a line that runs from about 3/4 of the way back on the boom, over it and then back down to the boom again, about 1/4 of the way back on the boom. It could do with another "vertical" but I got 90% of the benefit with what I have so I will most likely never add to it.

So, you need two sheaves, two rings, four pad eyes, two cleats some line and some overlooked items. :D

The most difficult part is getting up the mast to mount the sheaves.

I installed a standard Harken Lazy Jack kit on my old H26. They worked great.

Hi Jon,
Sorry no very good pix unless you're prepared to wait until I return to Montreal and take one after mast is stepped up ! I pop-riveted 6 half-moon shaped SS metal clamps on boom (3 per side) and 2 on mast about 6 inches lower than top-spreaders. 4 small blocks and 2 small plastic cleats. Don't remember how many feet of line but I did use 1/4" double braid which I got cheap at a flea market. And yes in spite of what you'll see on the attached drawing the line is all the same color :D

Jon, mast attachment is using same type of metal clamp as boom. Only installed with an eyelet spliced at the end with the metal clamp inserted in the eyelet before riveting to the mast. Metal clamp has a little bit of an angle so that the line is straight going to the block at the other end when deployed. Ends of the 3 lines forming the legs of the lazy jacks are just passed through the riveted clamps on the boom then a figure-8 knot is enough. Deploying puts tension and the figure-8 allows easy removal when taking mast down. Sorry no pix found in computer. Heck it's so easy if I wasn't 3 & 1/2 hours away I install it for you for a cold one !
