I want to put lazy Jacks on my 240 and have a question for those who have already installed them. Did you put the two lines that attach to the mast above or below the spreaders? I think it can be done either way, but most instructions I've seen suggest above the spreaders. The benefit of your experience would be helpful. I suspect 23.5's, 240's and 260's would be comparable. I'm trying Tom's homemade Lazy Jacks
Marc - I assume you've bought a kit already, so I'm just adding this comment for anybody else who is interested. I've rigged up Tom's homemade lazy jacks (which attach to the spreaders). They're working well enough for me. I liked the fact that they can be connected and disconnected easily and the sailcover still fits without modification. I imagine there are commercial kits with this feature. I've gone "store bought" with just about everything else on my boat but for some reason this little project appealed to me. I started out using some scrap bits of line for initial testing and measurements but just now I'm cutting and installing my final setup. His instructions say 3/8 line and bungee cord, but it turns out it's 5/16 (or you won't find the same nice bungee cord ends to fit the 3/8"). Tom agrees but he hasn't updated the instructions yet. I took mine off
The previous owner of my boat put on what looks like a homemade set. They were attached about 3/4 of the way up the mast. There were setup so that there was no way to take them off. I drilled out the rivets and tapped in some thumb screws. Now I can use them only when I want to. Most of the time (ok that would be 3 times so far) we haven't used them. Jason
