Gotta love the nice big lazarette on the 309. Too bad they goofed a little on the method to secure the hatch in the up position. If your 309's like mine you secure the hatch to the stern rail with a cable and hook arrangement. Ugh.
I'm out on a 3 week cruise right now and I can't wait to get home and just cut a board that will fit in the rain groove on the left side of the opening and hold up the hatch. All it needs is a 3/4" board, 4 inches x 14ish inches. I'm aready just reaching into the lazarette and grabbing my gallon bottle of Dexcool and sticking it there. WAAAAY easier when all you want to do is reach in with both hands to get something out of the lazarette. Seems very secure, too.
Once I get the board cut, it can just hang on a light cord and be ready for use. Sorry, no pictures, but take a look at you lazarette and hatch setup and you'll see exactly what I mean.
