I have many times wondered what value was served by having the laz cover partially obstructed by the tiller. If you store anything in there that you have to try to reach while underway, you'd have to lift the tiller out of the way in order to open the hatch, and that seems to make it worthwhile only for true "storage", not for "usable" storage...
Has anyone considered modifying this cover?

that seems like a lot of work to go to, just to keep from having to lift the tiller a few inches.
when your sailing, you shouldnt have to be in the laz hardy at all, and when you are at the dock or on the hook, the tiller can be pulled to the side or stowed in the up position lashed loosely to the backstay......
I had a 21 with the same issue, but once i learned the tiller didnt have to be in the way all the time, it wasnt an issue.....:D

I normally pull the fenders out of the laz, and install them while running the auto pilot. (and put them away when leaving).

its no big deal. it steers fine, under sail, or power.
(-however, I'm limited by the backstay on how wide it opens...)

..do you want to split the hatch length wise? what's your idea?

I'm going to be copying mine and making a replacement for another boat. Anyone want one? Get your orders in.

I'm not sure what the mod would be yet...I've been thinking split fore/aft down the "middle" and put a full-length SS piano hinge across it there, so it folds "up" like a pup tent or a-frame toward the starboard side...move the current hinges to the stbd side.
Also thinking about making it a slide-off (forward) cover that you can slide out to remove without having to lift up.

I'm with some of the others that the mod just isn't needed. The hinge will be one more place for water to enter. I'd put this one on the back burner ;),
