Peggy Hall seems to like all these products, and she certainly seems to know what she is talking about. I wonder hat would be the best choice to replace old ITT Jabsco heads on a live-aboard (with one or two aboard) 37' Cheoy Lee Trawler in snowy New Rochelle, NY? In winter fresh water can be gotten, but it is a chore. In Summer, there is a pump out boat from Hudson Riverkeeper.

You're trying to compare apples and oranges

The PH II and Lavac are manual toilets designed to use sea water. Ok...you CAN add electric motors to both, but the only thing the motors does is replace the pump HANDLE...you still have a manual toilet pump...and if you've read enough of my posts to know which toilets I like, you have to know that IMO putting a motor on a manual toilet turns a good manual toilet into a VERY poor excuse for an electric toilet. The VacuFlush is an over-priced electric toilet that use fresh water. which you've said can be hard to come by in winter in your neck of the woods.

So I don't think youve done enough research to know the difference between a PH II, Lavac and VacuFlush toilet or how any of 'em work. And you haven't said whether your existing jabsco toilets are manual or electric...or whether you want manual or electric toilets. So I dunno what you want, or what to recommend.

In Summer, there is a pump out boat from Hudson Riverkeeper.
Since almost all toilets use about the same amount of flush water, I dunno what that has to do with anything...'cuz no matter which toilet you choose, it's gonna flush into the tank, and it's the tank that the pump out boat pumps out, not the toilet.

Not so. Steve...

The Lavac is an excellent toilet...except for the PH II, it's the only manual toilet in its class that I recommend. But like ALL equipment it has to be installed, operated and maintained correctly if it's gonna work the way it's supposed to. After reading the thread, my money is on sea water mineral buildup in the head discharge hose that's reduced the diameter to the point where only liquid can still get through.

Dear Peggy,
I was told to contact you regarding a Raritan Cricket that I have in a boat I bought and am restoring
I know little about boats, but I have restored (God knows how) the interior, annd am now ready to step the mast, which was damaged during Ike
Where do I start with the head?
Should I buy a repair kit and start there?
Previous owner didn't care much about the boat, but was fussy about his choice of head, hence the comments from other sailors that this is a good toilet indeed.
Where do I start?
Please help in any way you can

The Raritan "Cricket" was only manufactured for a few years in the late 1990's. It is basically a "dead item" these days, as replacement parts and repair kits for it are no longer being offered. If you are having problems with it, I'd strongly urge you to simply get a different head, rather than trying to repair it.
