I met Kermit for the first time and appreciated his company and now have a friend for life which he will visit the new mountain home when completed.
He had issues with the trailer which is applicable to both. First he could not bring out or extend the trailer hitch. The PO had the trailer reworked before selling and the repair facility put in a metal tube style line which was not factory specs. It use to have for lack of words a rubber vinyl hose with extra footage which to lengthen the extension. I told him to replace and get rid of that metal tubing. It should be used to extend the hitch on shallow ramps.
He had trouble launching and retrieving. First item is to know your ramps particularily when going on a trip and ask the locals as they would know that ramp better. In his case, the ramp was washed out at the end of the ramp and siltation was the other. Suggested filling in at the end of the ramp with rocks and use the sand siltation to his advantage by smoothing out and down with the use of shovel and rake.
If a ramp is unlevel, load the boat on the high side of the trailer and when you pull out, it will generally come to rest on the trailer where it should.
Finally, the boat centerboard was catching coming off and some going on. Make sure that when the Center board comes down or goes up, you will hear a clunking sound. If not, simple readjust the lines unitl you do and that should eliminate future issues.
Kermit was a terrific host and one person whom I enjoyed working with and will go back to help at any time unless he starts croaking. .
