Can a 235 be launched using a crane. Similar to a J-24. Thanks, David

Yes, indeed it can!

Sure can. In fact, many do it this way. I removed my F235 with a MONSTER crane at the Charleston, SC Naval Yard. Others have used the smaller cranes, some even fork lifts. I now have a trailer but the crane was dirt easy and the only negative was the expense. There are a few pics of a F235 coming out via a crane in my site, one on the wing vs fin keel page. btw, clarify...

Do you mean attaching a pickup point within the F235 to lift? Just realized you might be meaning this instead of the general "lifting by a crane with slings" idea. This what you meant? kelly http://beneteau235.com/ http://beneteau235.com/forum/

Keel Bolt

Yes Kelly, Does a 235 have a eye bolt on the keel? David

Nope...unfortunately no.....

No EYEBOLT on the keel. As a matter of fact, the Beneteau First 235 could not be done this way even if it did as I dont think it's a direct line from any keel bolt to lift. Not only that, but instead of studs with a nut like most keels, the Beneteaus like the 235 have actual keel BOLTS that go into the keel. When you remove a keel bolt, it's literally turning the entire bolt, not ye olde nut. So I dont think the 235 has any provision for lifting in this fashion, nor do a estimate there really be any feasible way to mod it either. It's the slings with the spreaders at top to keep compresson off the boat. kelly http://beneteau235.com http://beneteau235.com/forum

Keel Bolt

I've been thinking about a keel lift option too. Kelly is correct about the stock set up for a 235, but a modification may be feasible. Most J-24s and M242s have to add an inspection port in the cabin top to allow a sling to access the keel bolt, and the same could be done to the 235. The keel bolts are 14mm at the back, 20mm otherwise. An option is to replace one of the bolts with a stud and nut/eyebolt. There are still the issues of centre of gravity and mast compression, though. I've written to the designer to see if they have seen this done and have any info. I'll post a response on Kelly's forum if anything come of it. Please feel free to share anything you hear.
