Nice, enjoyed the journey and the pictures. I have yet to do that side of Manhattan but hope to some day. Going to Florida from Lake Erie we anchored behind Lady Liberty on a gorgeous August evening. Next morning we sailed close to the Intrepid where I was able to point out aircraft that I had worked on. So your travels were a nice reminder.
Yes, thanks for sharing your account of the trip and the photos. Given the weather on Sunday I am sure you made the right call to head back to Stamford with the early morning favorable tide.
I am glad you were able to find a way to get back to your boat at 1am. The website specifically says: "Overnight occupancy of vessels is prohibited." I'm also glad NYC Parks Security didn't know this 'rule'. http://www.hudsonriverpark.org/estuary/moorings_pier40.asp
I've enjoyed every trip I've done, up or down the East River. The first time going from LI Sound to the Hudson on my own boat we were able to sail right through Hell Gate before we turned on the engine just above Roosevelt Island. Of course it is safer motoring the whole way because of all the commercial traffic.
