Last Sail of the Season

Nothing on the office books this afternoon and a near-perfect fall afternoon -- sounds like sailing time to me! Ran into a couple of marina buddies winterizing their boats, but we were heading out. Since there were little whitecaps on the river, it seemed prudent to tie in a reef at the dock. We surfed our way downwind and upstream nicely under control. Fall colors were at their peak, tacking back we unfurled the jib just enough to point better. No fuss, just my wife, the dog and me having a great afternoon on the water. We came in with enough daylight for putting the boat to bed, and watched the sunset as we drove home. I guess there is some compensation for going back on standard time! Well, the next boat-related activity will be getting it on the trailer and high ground for the winter. Water ballast doesn't let us keep it at the dock during the cold months. I keep telling myself that mast-up storage at the marina lets me launch on the occasional warmish winter weekend, but other commitments always keep me from actually doing it. So now the portable air compressor and chest waders are in the back of the Xterra. Sailing season is over for me and it's time for planning for next year! (Hmmm -- wonder what the next "improvement" to the boat will be?) Harvey Hunter 26 WB "Waiting for the Sun"

Same on Saturday

Sounds just like what the wife and I did on Saturday. We had a nice 10-12mph wind, lots of sun and fall colors on the Maumee River. We were out for a few hours in the 170. It's that time of year when the water is wide open. No skiers, or jet ski traffic to keep looking out for over your shoulder. Just us, the water, wind and the sights. Now we just have all winter to look forward to next season. JerryA

Still some time left

Great weather for sailing on the ICW, very little traffic last weekend. Hope to keep her in the water until December, then pull her out for a new bottom job and splash back in late Feb. Have not had alot of luck this summer with all the hurricanes, pulled her out on six different occasions due to water conditions. We are trying to squeeze alittle more time on the water then usual.

This is when living in the South is grand. All last week we had continous sailing weather.Friday was the culmination. Here on Lake Hartwell we had at least 4 hrs.of 6 to 8 knots of wind from southwest. We were able to make hull speed with jib and main. What a great day temps about 71 deg. and only 2 power boats seen all day!!Those of us who do not have to work, sure live for these days. There had to have been a dozen boats out fron our marina.About 3:30 just like a switch had been thrown thelake went flat and the wind died.ust time to dock and head home for dinner.Isn't this what lifes all aBOUT??
