Went out in Galveston Bay last night. A little cool out but a great 18-21K breeze. A 3/4 Moon lit up the place almost like daylight. We were testing a set of new sails on a friends boat. Dont know how many of you remember Franklin, but he is readying his boat for a Galveston Bay to Vera Cruz race in 2 weeks. He even had another friend aboard with his friend's 84, yes 84 year old mother. We all had a great time. Happy sailing to all of you. Tony B

Tell Franklin I miss him on this forum and all the best to him. Night sailing is a trip and here on the Great South Bay the best time is in the early season before the crab traps show up, you know the ones with black marking bouys that ya can't see in the day time no less at night!

I will convey the message to Franklin. Me and the admiral used to love night sailing in the Gulf. When we moved to Lake Ponchartrain, we were about 4 hours from the Gulf and would NOT night sail on the lake. Lake Ponchartrain was unbelieveably cross patterned with crab traps. Each crabber had different colored buoys but after a while, the marine growth made them all look black. When we day sailed, we would actually pick a row of crab traps to ride between. Dont know if they are back since Hurricane Katrina. Tony B

Please Tell Franklin

that there is an opening on this forum for a salty old curmudgeon and he would be welcome back by me. I used to enjoy reading his colorful posts a lot. I can also understand why he has moved on. I too love night sailing and wish I was there so you could give me more pointers on wood finishing etc. All the best (as R. Gainer would have said).

Caleb.....salty old curmudgeon.

The first time I met Franklin, that was what I was expecting. I think Franklin is only about 38 or so. I will let him know you asked Yonkes is a long way from Houston, but if ever heading this way, e-mail me. Tony B
