Last hope for a Tiller Extension Clip

Hello all, I know this is much to do about nothing.... but I am trying to keep from drilling new holes in my tiller. I have a H240, 1999. The tiller extension clip broke and I have searched throughout the web for the exact clip for replacment. Crazy Dave and even the guys at Hunter Marine have been kind enough to send me clips, no charge, yet they are differnt from the origional one and thus require different drill holes. I have even ordered from a couple of web sites but I keep getting the wrong ones. The one I need is red in color, with pointed, yet slightly rounded ends. The model number is Ronstan RF RF1134. The replacement clips I keep getting are RF1135-16 and they are usally black or white. Obviously I don't care about the color but its the size which I need so I don't have to fill the old holes and drill new ones. So my last hope is to see if anyone out there has the red clip I need, just sittting about and not being used...... maybe you took it off and replaced it etc. I have placed a piture of the clip I need below. Anyway, thanks to all for any help. And thanks to Hunter Marine and Crazy Dave for their assistance. If anyone needs a RF1135-16 clip, let me know :) Regards to all and thanks. Daniel

Mine is broken too - I've seen your earlier posts but not got around to looking for one in the UK!! Unfortunately (for me) everything that I need for the 240 is in USA sizes and normally not stocked by UK companies!! The last bit of rigging I needed someone who was going to the US on holiday picked it up for me!!!

Have you tried Ronstan directly?

Just curious, it seems like if they have the part, you can get it.

Elongate holes in the clip

West Marine has a 3/4" diameter clip where the holes are close - and that's close enough. It doesn't need to be perfect. Elongate the holes with a file or a knife. I've broken two or three so far and expect to go through more, so I keep extras on hand. Maybe some day I'll learn not to step over the tiller.

Called Ronstan

They were very good at looking for one but apparently they have stopped making the RF1134 for severeal years and did not have any in thier stocks. I will keep trying for the right replacement.

Same one

That looks the same as the clip I got from WM just a few weeks ago. It was on the same page as the tiller extentions.

industrial strength velcroI

I just bought a used h 240 that has an ill-fitting tiller extension clip. I bought some industrial strength velcro from WalMart and for the moment it is working well. I am going to start a new posting to ask if anyone has used a Forespar, telescoping tiller extension with a "tiller lock box". It looks to me like a good solution and one where the lock boxes might be attached to the port and starboard rail supports. I plan to see who may have tried it.

Daniel - I bought one for you today, BUT...

...but don't get too excited as I can't guarantee that it is indeed an RF1134. It was in a very old package that was labeled RF1134. The package looks like it has been in the store for many years. It is black, not red, so I actually think it might be yet another RF1135-16. Stamped on one of the prongs is "RONSTAN AUST" and "RF". The measurements are: mounting holes: 1/8", 3/4" apart. diameter of receiver: about 19/32" opening width: 9/32" total height: 1 3/32" To get the extension into it, the 9/32" opening between the prongs that point up has to be forced open to the width of the pole, which presumably is a bit less than 19/32". The prongs are pretty stiff and hard to force apart. If this is the one, let me know where to send it. ...RickM...

Thanks to all.....

Want to thank all for their suggestions and help. TO Dick, Saylorville Lake..... You were right on. I could not find one that looked like the one I needed in the WM website, but I did stop at the local WM and they had some black ones with the same dimentions, ie. pointed ends etc. And it fit perfectly ! TO Garrison Smith, Patoka Lake, Indiana ... I will send you out a RF1135-16 clip this week. TO Rick Macdonald, Calgary, Canada.... Many thanks for your extra efforts. Sounds like the one you bought may fit as well but I don't have the dimentions in front of me as my only computer acess is at work. If you want to send the one to me, I will send you back one of the RF1135-16. I greatly appreciate your help, all of you. Great bunch of sailors ! Address is D.L. Lawrence, 1930 Monroe Street, 200, Madison, WI 53711 Thanks to all again, and good sailing. Cheers, Daniel
