Large opening on the stern ??

Just bought a lancer 25
Curious about this hole ?
Previous owner had the gas tank for the outboard in there
Has anyone fiberglassed this up ?
I’m probably going to do that and route the drain lines thru the space then drop the gas tank in from the top for the outboard

Looks like he was mounting the outboard there. You can see the mounting plate outline at the bottom of the opening. My Cat27 is like that.... Long as that compartment is waterproof from the cabin and has a drain hole you okay. Many people have closed off the transom and mounted the outboard on a lifting bracket, if you do that I recommend an electric start, remote control motor. Having the ob in the hole makes it way easier to manage the throttle and start though. I have remote control on mine, with the hole, and it's pretty awesome. I don't evern kick it up when sailing, only when I'm moored.
