Please don't laugh to hard, but I am contemplating attempting to use a Macintosh G3 laptop on my boat. This involves purchasing the laptop, interfacing it with my Garmin GPS and Raytheon Autopilot, and finding usable Mac compatible charting software. Has anyone had any success with this type set up?

Only way to go!

Well, once you get it working you will have the smug pleasure of navigating while your fellow sailors on Win98 will be trying to fix their "device errors..." :) There is no reason why that shouldn't work. I haven't looked at the software in a while and don't know who makes a Mac version, but it may also be possible to run a Win version with SoftWindows on your G3. One place to start miught be with MapTech. they make charts for many of the popular nav apps and may be able to point you to a company that offers their software for Mac. Good luck, and let me know how this goes! (submitted from a G3 laptop...) ph.
