My folks have a mid-80's Lancer 29 Power Sailer. The holding tank is under the aft cabin bunk and is toast. It has an aluminum top plate, now rapidly turning to aluminum oxide and split. My question is: have any of you folks had any experience with this vintage orphan to know if the aluminum is just the top of a fiberglass tank or if the whole thing is aluminum and it is glassed in? I will know soon enough. Just trying to get mentally prepared and schedule my time. Ick. Rick D.

It's almost certainly an aluminum tank

In all my years in the marine sanitation biz, I've never seen or even heard of any tank with only an aluminum cover...and I can't imagine any owner using anything but wood or fiberglass to replace a cover on a fiberglass tank.

One Would Think, Peggie...

..that the tank would be aluminum. But, the tank nipples are on the side, the side is fiberglass, and the aluminum 'top' is screwed down around the sides as if it were gasketed. I suppose it could be the worst of all worlds and be a glassed-in aluminum tank. I don't want to think about that. Anyway, as I said, I'll know soon enough. Rick D.
