We have a 2006 Catalina 387.
A question regarding the laminated timber floor infill pieces that cover the bilge.
There are two floor infills in the main cabin, a larger one behind the Samson post and a smaller forward of the Sampson post. Both are formed from a thick laminated timber and sit into a formed plastic seat.
The larger infill has been slowly disintegrating for some time, leaving a powder behind and the timber laminate is showing parts where the powder comes from, what looks like it’s being attached/eaten by termites, but there are no termites or any other insects present. I’ve soaked the timber in termite/insect killing chemical treatment with no resultant change to the production of the powder.
So now I’m thinking it’s a reaction between the glue and timber?
I wish to ask if anybody else has experienced this phenomena?
Thanks
