The wife and I went sailing in Indiana today. A little place called Lake Tippecanoe about nine miles South of US6 near Leesburg. It's a nice clean place and when we had wind it was fun. I wouldn't recommend visiting on Labor Day... it was a busy place. There was one other small Laser sized sailboat out. He came along side and wished us luck finding wind. He said it was good till about 11am and then just disappeared. He was correct. We would motor until finding wind... shut off the motor and ride it till it disappeared again. Too many PWC's and tubes behind powerboats. Lots of people liked the 170 though. While we were setting up, launching & taking down, people kept coming by to tell us how pretty it was. We even had someone on a PWC zip up along side and tell us it was pretty and that he liked the open transome. All in all, not a bad day. The wind wasn't the best, but the compliments from everyone made up for it. Jerry

Brings Back Memories

I remember going to Lake Tippecanoe as a kid. A friend's family had a lake cottage there. My parents later bought a summer cottage at Lake George that strattled the Indiana/Michigan state line. I learned to sail on a Sunfish on Lake George. We got a 16' Hobie Cat when I was 14. The Lake Association organized class races for 18' sloop rigged center board sailboat that was called an Inland Cat. I have tried to find information on the Inland Cat in books and on the internet, but have never found any information. I got hooked on sailing at 14 in Indiana on Lake George and am still sailing on the Chesapeake Bay 40 years later.

Cool!

Rockyglen - I would love to try the Chesapeake Bay area in my H170, or anything else. That area looks like it's full of places to explore. I'd like to go back to Tippecanoe on an off day when fewer boats are out on the water. It's a cute place. Do you remember Patona Bay Marina? Jerry
