I'm moving to Texas and will be sailing on Lake Texoma. I would love to talk to anyone who sails on Lake Texoma. Feel free to respond to me off list at belbein@da.fulton.ga.us.

Welcome to TEXAS

You probably already know that after the gulf coast, the best sailing in the south in on Lake Texoma. The meandering shape does give some variety to the winds but doesn't leave you blanked between high cliffs as on many of the beautiful hill country lakes. It's a big lake. Several of us will be crusing the BVI's in June and we have been comparing the proposed sailing legs with sailing between anchorages on Texoma. (Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to compare the lake with the Caribbean!) For sailors, there are two real choices from the many fine marinas on the lake: Cedar Mills on the west end and Grandpappy's on the east. Both have clubs that are active in both crusing and racing. Grandpappy's has access to the larger open part of the lake near the dam. Cedar Mills in near the Islands with their great beaches and some interesting anchorages. I'm at Cedar Mills and am impressed by the service and overall quality of the marina operations and staff. Valiant Yatchs are manufactered here and I believe that is a factor in the quality of the staff in relation to sailors in particular. Whatever, your choice, we'll be looking for you on the water!
