havnt tried it yet, but on the local news "mr fixit" said 50/50 mix of scope and water in a spray bottle, spray your ankles.

The local fishermen burn them when cleaning fish or conch. We also had them burning on the picnic tables when had BBQ night at the marina. This was the common house fly by the hundreds. Somebody out there try it before the frost hits.

I think you're on to something! Rodents are repelled by mint ... why not flies? This is one formula that sounds promising. If nothing else, you can't smell bad by trying it.

I though we had it bad here in the South with the love bugs twice a year. They mostly swarm around busy roads and Kamikaze your car while they are coupled making next year's batch. They're acidic and will eat the finish right off your vehicle. For some reason they also swarm in the gulf near shore and will inundate your boat by the tens of thousands when the wind dies. Good thing, though, is they don't bite. I feel for you guys in the North.

full screened cockpit here, even under sail and always at anchor. we also run a 'thermacell' which is a small butane powered device with an insecticide that keeps a 10 x 10 x 10 area clear of bugs for hours. dog trainers in the south carry thermacells to repel those horrid biting mosquitoes, our thermacell lantern sits in the cockpit and actually does a very good job. (won't work while sailing, t he repellant vapors will blow away. ) order on amazon --comes in a 'lantern' or belt pack version.
