Looking for the best or most useful overnight anchor for Lake Pleasant,AZ. Our first anchor (Danforth style), we could not retrieve after a couple of hours on anchor during the day. I would like to spend the night there without losing my anchor every time. Never had a trouble in other bottom conditions.

I wish I could help you with the information you asked for, but I dont know what type of bottom will be found at Lake Pleasent.
But I do know about anchors.... any anchor with pointy thing protruding from it at any angle is subject to being hung up on some bottom structure. if it is simply a mud or gravel bottom, its and easy choice of the type of anchor needed. if the bottom is littered with old stumps, boulders or trash of some type, there is no good answer.
the very best thing that you can do is rig your anchor with a trip line. any anchor can be rigged with a trip line and in almost every case you will be able to retrieve your stuck anchor. but not every case..... I have been hired to dive and retrieve anchors and have found that its very common that when the anchor lands it will slide down the slope and go under an exposed tree root. or be dropped onto a bunch of boulders where the anchor will work its way down in to a hole..... sometimes its not the anchor, but the rode or chain ties itself in a knot around a root or rock as the boat swings.
there is no guarantee that whenever you throw something overboard, that you will ever get it back, but when you have a trip line tied to it as well as an anchor rode, you will always have at least 2 different angles of attack to bring it home.

I've read about Pleasant before and we would like to go there at some point and I think the problem there is trees and such under water. We had a similar experience on...

.... beach the boat as much as possible, which was most of the time. On Pleasant I don't know if that is an option. I've been there, but not out on the water there.
I'm not a fan of stern shore lines in most cases, but if there wasn't going to be much wind at night I might try one along with the anchor to keep from floating around and having the rode wrap around stuff.

As far as anchor types we love our 25 lb. Manson Supreme, but if we anchored where there was a chance of loosing it we would put down the 22 lb. claw as it would be a lot less expensive to replace.

many anchors like delta's have a hole that you could add a small float line, or retrieval line. depending on how deep. same for grappling hook/anchors.
some 1/4" nylon with a float should be enough to lift it up and out. also good to mark your anchor is crowed spots.

The lake varies from rock (boulder) to sand and in some areas, old trees. I also use a Danforth style anchor at Lake Pleasant. So far I guess I have been lucky.
Good advice and we do this sometimes now. When we had problems the anchor wasn't stuck, but the rode was all wrapped around the trees. If we would of know where the anchor was we could of pulled it up and then easily unhooked it from the rode and saved it even if we couldn't save the rode.
I was able to finally find the anchor swimming since the water was clear. I got it to the surface and unhook it. We were able to then pull the rode free. With the float I wouldn't of had to of gone in the water at all,

Thanks to all of the responses! I think for now I will go cheap, but add a trip line for Lake Pleasant (rocks and tree bottom). Maybe I will have a better luck next time. Has anyone used a box anchor?
