Hi all! I lived off the hook for 3.5 years up and down the East Coast and like living on a hook. I just got another boat and am looking forward to some limited cruising in Lake Erie and was looking for some local knowledge of gookd places to put down for the night or a weekend... Any advice or suggestion would be helpful. I am now in a 24' O'Day with a 5'7" Draft. Thanks! Griffin s/v Brighid's Crossing

Not many

We love the moorings at Put-in-Bay. Like being on the hook, but with all the conveniences (not free, of course.) We have anchored for lunch south of the eastern peninsula of Middle Bass. This is OK with westerly winds. Out east, nearer to our homeport, we really like to anchor in Fairport Harbor. The best anchorages we have seen on the lake are in the small bays on the north side of Erie Bay. That's our experience so far. David Lady Lillie

Lorain, Ohio

Give Lorain a try! Just East of the marinas and lighthouses there is a somewhat protected area (South and west). There are some good resturants with in easy waling distance. Skip

I would add the north side of Kelley's, but...

it's rocky and not a great place to be when the wind pipes up from the NW,N,or NE as it is not protected from those directions. There are a couple of anchorages on Pelee on the north near Scudder's marina and on the south end, but neither of those are well-protected either. You can anchor on the lee side of any of the islands in the western end, but (surprise!! surprise!!) the wind is fickle. We'll see you out there somewhere this summer.
