I am about one week away from a decision to truck Ladylove back to Lake Erie. I have costs for the haul and the back end. Still waiting for the haul out, taking her apart, and getting her on the truck estimates. That will happen someplace in St. Petersburg. I can't get to Florida so have to impose on my friend Ed A. to get that done.

But it is very exciting to think Ladylove will only be 80 miles away instead of 1580. And with the mast on the rack I will finally get that new furler and standing rigging project done.

I know we have debated the advantages of being south and in the water all the time. But I don't see many people sailing in the summer there. And it is kind of nice having the boat out of the water five or six months. Lots of time to work on projects and she always goes back in with a nice clean and freshly painted bottom. Really only Jan thru Mar do I miss it. By April the weather is good and we are getting ready to splash. First of May we are back at it. I look forward to it. Now if that lottery will just. . . . . .

Hey Ed, best wishes with the move. I hope all goes well.

Let us know how the projects go as they happen.

Back to Lake Erie. . .maybe.

Here is what I do NOT miss about Lake Erie. Covering the boat is a lot of work. Then having to partially open it up everytime I want to do some work. But here is a typical February day at the lake. We get a lot of days like this where it is quite warm inside the boat. Great for all of those inside projects. That last picture is looking out the ice covered Huron river past the lighthouse, 2/18/2004.

Great pics, Ed. I love that picture of Ladylove's butt sticking out of the cover... a classic 1970s Cherubini transom not very different from a Raider's (and that's like comparing a familiar girlfriend's rear end to Jessica Alba's!).

Nice little (frozen) neck of the woods you've got there. Almost as tight quarters as where my boat is.

Hi JC, another nice feature is that river. Less than one mile to open water but very protected. That is the yacht club parking lot(I am not a member). The marina is to the right in the picture after another turn. Spent eight years there before Florida. In my avatar you can see grain towers in the background. The river is dredged for both grain and ore boats. So lots of water, bigger than it looks.

Not selling her probably is not the wisest decision Bill. But emotionally it is good.

Ed,
When you get back to Florida, you are welcome to sail Midnight Sun any time you like. Just don't get spoiled.

Years spent sailing are not deducted from a man's life. --old proverb.

Then again, speaking of 'falling in love', years spent married are deducted double. So... some of us DO need a sailboat.

Crossing the bar

In fact, if you check with a life insurance actuary, married men live longer than single men...not sure about the stats for married sailors though! But then more sailors possibly find themselves single once the boat becomes the other woman...oh hell, just go sailing and don't worry about crossing the bar until you come to it! (and then try to cross it on a rising tide with a following wind ;-')

You guys are priceless! An offer to sail(I wrote to Blaise), a reminder that I am much younger for having spent a good part of my life on the water(how much do I subtract from 70), Jim waxing poetic, and other good vibes.

Over the years I have met many Cherubini owners including at least ten H37C sailors. Those relationships started right here on SBO in 1998. I would give anything for a "raft up" with you guys even if it was just at Hooters in rental Chevrolets.

Some of you know my situation wherein I am a caregiver and pretty much homebound. Whatever you can do to keep good health for yourself and your Admirals is job one. Then go sailing.

Made the deposit today, decision done. Reputable transporter from Cleveland will bring Ladylove back to Lake Erie. He does several boats a winter, everyone wants to go south. So he gets a load this way. I'll get up to Huron one day and get a coat of paint on the cradle. Might need some new carpet too. I just wish I could get down to Tampa and give Ed A. a hand. Fortunately the boat yard, well paid, will do the heavy lifting. Wonder if I will get my old slip back(pic)?

They are a Hunter dealer Charlie. It is where I found Ladylove and where we spent our first nine years together. A very protected marina and an easy daysail to the islands. I have given some consideration to Cleveland because it is twenty minutes closer. But then I can't do the island thing.

Great news, Ed. Where are you living now?

Good luck with the move, but it sounds like you have it well in hand.

I have never liked thinking of Ladylove in Florida without you!

Down here in south Akron, actually Uniontown, by the airport David. I am looking forward to my next time up to Huron. And, of course, to WM over at Catawba. Maybe see you in the islands next year. I seldom sail into the bay.

Ed:

I am glad to hear you made this decision. Now you will have both of the loves of your life close by. Just think, you have next April/May to look forward to.

Ed, if you are still in Tampa for the weekend of 9/24, give me a call. we are racing Midnight Sun in the BYC (Bredenton Yacht Club) regatta and would love to have you along. We usually get killed because of light air, b

Don't think that I can get out of Ohio Blaise. But I would love for someone who has succesfully raced our H37Cs to show me how. Maybe in the spring I can get you up to Lake Erie. You and Ed A and I could have a really good time over to Canada and back.
