My Fiance' and I did a 4 day circumnavigation of Lopez Island over Labor Day Weekend. It was perfect, with wind every day and sunny (though a bit chilly). We started at Anacortez and spent our nights at Spencer Spit, Friday Harbor and Iceberg Point.
Made a little video of the trip, here it is

Thanks Terry, we had a blast! That sunset was anchored at Outer Bay, in front of Agate Beach off Iceberg Point, Southern tip of Lopez. Probably pretty rare to get a calm enough night to anchor there, as it is (obviously, with the sunset) open due West - out the straight. There is a bailout anchorage in MacKaye Harbor, just around the corner, if things get too rough. But it was a special spot and a perfect final night aboard.
Hope to do at least a quick weekend trip or something before it gets too cold/rainy

I really dislike anchoring in Mackaye Harbor. Also open to wave action from the Strait and northwesterly winds. So many other much nicer places.

Be sure to add Eagle Harbor and Pelican Beach to your sailing itinerary. Both well worth the visit and lightly used this time of the year. You can find them on the east side of Cypress Island, a short distance from Anacortes. Cypress Head is also there but south of these. All three have fee free mooring balls supplied by DNR.
