L.O. = Lubricating Oil
Some yanmar models have a pressure monitor on the oil filter and this light goes on when it is clogged or you are using an after-market unit with a different flow characteristic from the OEM model.
Put in a new original Yanmar part and the trick should be solved... If not then the sensor unit or electrical path should be monitored.
Hours of fun!
Good luck
Thanks I can't find any reference to it online or in the manual and of course no Tech I have talked to knows this. My fuel filer has a pressure or flow switch that I assume lights one of the idiot lights. Nothing on the oil filter. I am away from the boat but when I get back I'll look for a switch near the oil filter.
Thanks.

This is news to me. I consulted the manual for this motor and examined the wiring layout. The low oil pressure lamp turns on at oil pressure under 5 psi. There is no over pressure or 'flow' warning system whatsoever in this motor (ie filter clogged or some oil filter variance.)
Possible causes are: Oil pressure too low, sender unit broken - not opening at over 5 psi, sender wire has come loose and is touching the motor block.
Charles is right! There is a bypass valve if the pressure difference before and after the filter exceeds a certain value but there is no warning light or alarm. There doesn't seem to be a light for l.o. Filter.... Only l.o. Pressure... The manual is very explicit and has a good trouble-shooting section.
Thanks for setting me straight
