Didn't see where else to post this, so apologies if it needed to be somewhere else.
I bought a used 160 that needed a new regulator. The one I got seems to fit very loosely. I called the manufacturer they are not very helpful.
Does anyone on here have a 160 that can advise me on how loosely the regulator is on their unit?
Thanks

Good luck with that. Your experience is not unique. We bought one a few years back but returned it right away. Priced cheap because is was built cheap.

With regard to your regulator, by design it does fit loosely. We purchased a new one about a month ago, have used it a half a dozen times and overall are happy with it and have had no problems with the grill.

thank you, but I mean when inserted there is a lot of play. it works but a little concerning. I would not feel comfortable leaving it attached while sailing. is yours that loose?

It was. The whole thing seemed poorly designed and built. I'm guessing it will work, but you need to be careful. For us at the time, it made more sense to return it and get a better grill.

Its too bad, I liked the rectangular design much more then the round Magma.

We always take the grill off the rail when not in use. We put it in a large garbage bag then tote bag and stow it in a cockpit locker. There is play in the regulator. It allows the bottle to sit at various angles depending on the mounting method. If you have concerns, I would simply drop into a local store that sells them and see how they compare with yours.

I have a Kuuma model 83722 that is about 7-8 years old. It looks identical to the 160 model. The regulator has always been wobbly but it has never come off. There is a e-clip that prevents that from happening. A picture is worth many words. See clip below.

Having had different brands of portable propane stoves I can attest that all of them have loose regulators so they can freely rotate. I guess the gas gets injected into the burner tube and there is no need for a tight seal. Propane like water only runs downhill. The proof is in the pudding connect a bottle of propane and fire the stove up. Don't know anything about Kumma 160 stoves or grill but all these fixtures can be a fire hazard so in a boat I would use a quality built fixture.

Yes, I tested it and it works correctly. Its just so loose I would not leave the regulator, and especially not with a bottle attached, connected to the grill while sailing for fear of it falling off (not the grill, the regulator).

We never left the bottle on our Magma. The propane bottle lived in a sewn bag attached to the rail. The grilled was covered with a sewn bag that synched tight at the bottom containing the control valve and rotating arm. Before we did that we had a bouncy trip and when we anchored we found out that whole control arm had unscrewed and was lost. Cold dinner. Colder sleeping arrangements.

I never leave the bottle attached. As soon as the cooking is done the bottle comes off. I have the Kuuma cover for the grill but it does not wrap tightly around the bottom to keep the regulator captured. I've never lost the regulator. However, that cover has reached end-of-life and I am fabricating a new Sunbrella cover and that one will have an elastic or cinch cord around the bottom so all will be held securely.

+1 Rich. I have never left the bottle attached. The regulator is a loose fit. We have had this for 10+ years and it is used frequently. I did replace the flame diffuser this year.
