I wanted to send out a public thank you to the good folks at Garhauer. Once again they did as promised which does not happen often in the marine industry or any other for that matter. I called them on Tuesday to order some 40 series fiddle blocks and two low lead genoa blocks. They shipped the order out that day and as I requested shipped it second day air from CA to ME for $19.00 a very reasonable rate considering this order weighed 8 pounds packaged. When I got home from work today the stuff was here as promised and on time. Not many companies will ship the same day as the order is placed! Oh and just for grins I priced the same size and configuration blocks with Harken (plastic) and it was 3.2 times the price with LESS warranty. I have nothing against Harken and they make fine equipment, I have one of their furlers, but I hate getting raped... Once again the folks at Garhauer have proven why sometimes a smaller company IS better!

Don't spread this around

Garhauer is great stuff and a good company. If they start getting bigger, though, we may lose the personal service. I like talking to the guy a the boat show.

They are the best!

I have to say that they are one of the best! I've dealt with the Garhauer people a couple of times over the years and they have been great to work with. They make quality products, at a reasonable price, and with terrific customer service.

I put a Garhauer rigid vang on our boat -

but when I compared specs on some of the blocks and other hardware, the rated strength was quite a bit lower than the comparable Harken product - probably still more than adequate, but I do know Harken puts a lot into the engineering side of it, plus they are in my backyard - handy for answering questions and stuff!

Retraction - or clarification at least ...

Now that I have gone back and looked at specific examples, either Harken has lowered their SWL or Garhauer has raised theirs. Last year I replaced my entire mainsheet system with Harken blocks, and Harken deck organizers. When I compared apples to apples, the Harken stuff outspec'd the Garhauer stuff by what I thought was a fairly significant amount. Now, looking at the same stuff in their respective online catalogues, that no longer appears to be the case.

depends on the sizes too

Scott: Garhauer has 3 or 4 different sizes for each product. You may have looked at one of the smaller units. Some of their products do not easily translate to the other mfg. sizes. I am a real advocate of their stuff too. They just don't have everything that the other mfg. carry. What they do have is of excellent quality and a warranty that cannot be beat. They also have the customer service to go along with excellent products.

Still Waiting

Stopped by for some gear three weeks ago: the people jumped to help me, and all the gear is beautiful. But I'm still waiting for my lifting davit (needed to fabricate; none built & lying aroung) to ship! Today the gal on the phone said only a few more days. In today's world of four-stroke outboards, and older backs, it's almost a necessity. Jeff

Yep. Garhauer has it figured out.

I've had terrific results from Garhauer. Retrofitted an old Nico traveler system and the blocks on the car deformed a bit. Sent it to them -- they beefed them up and returned them via FedEx within two days -- and never charged me for shipping. When you talk to Bill at the boat show, you're talking to the owner. They have a guy named Guido who is incredible -- he knows O'Days and he knows his stuff. This is a great little company who understands customer service.

Same great experience

I also had a terrific experience with Garhauer. I ordered 2 swivel cleats for my boat, and when the package arrived, there was only one inside, and one billed. I called the nice folks there, joking that the shipper couldn't be a sailor,as one swivel cleat is like 1 shoe. I then asked if they would waive the shipping fee for the second one,and was told " we messed up on this one-the second one is on us!" No charge for the part or the shipping!! I love the Garhaeur folks!!!

Guido is Great

Sorry, Maine, I pre-paid while I was there. Guido is great, like everyone there, and knows just about everything. I think the key is that whoever you deal with treats you as if you were, well, important. That's rarer in customer service that it used to be. Now I have to endure cashiers TAKE CELL PHONE CALLS while I'm standing right there. Makes me want to snatch it away and throw it out the door.
