Here's a switch from the usual story about companies who just don't seem to care about thier customers: Last summer I ordered a traveler line control upgrade for my O'Day 302. Guido at Garhauer was very knowledgeable about my boat and what I'd need and the new controls worked great. When sailing weekend before last we noticed one of two fittings on the traveler car was failing and bending toward the traveler rail. I disassembled the traveler controls and sent the fittings and a note via express mail to Garhauer -- explaining the problem and telling them I had guests scheduled to sail with me this weekend. I sent the fittings on Monday...by Tuesday afternoon when I called, they'd already fixed and shipped the repaired fittings back to me...and they arrived at my house last Wednesday afternoon. Total elapsed time -- about 50 hours! And...Garhauer didn't charge me for the return express mail! The new parts performed beautifully this weekend. This is one happy Garhauer customer -- my experience tells me these folks take care of their customers.

So?

Steve: So what! Everyone know this about Garhauer. I think that this is a lot of what contributes to their success. Actually I had a similar deal with them. I took a ball bearing deck organizer apart and lost a bunch of the bearings. They replaced them for no charge. They just charged freight. Great organization, excellent products and outstanding customer service.

Me too

I bought a radar mast from them a couple of years ago. Dropped a piece of the rail clamp overboard in the process of installation. I called them, and they laughed saying "yeah, that happens." Sent me out a replacement the same day at no charge. And the radar mast is great! I'm a fan. Gary Wyngarden S/V Wanderlust h37.5

We should

do more of this: share our experiences with companies that we are really happy with rather than just post our complaints about companies that don't sell good products or stand by the ones they do sell. FYI, I bought a boom vang from Garhauer some time ago that was priced way below the competition and appears to be as good, or better, than the big brand names. I'm happy too.

OK you guys,

Knock it off! Phil will be shutting down this thread because it will be too long. Let's use a different approach. Anybody NOT happy with Garhauer?

They can take a long time

to fabricate anything that needs "customization" but the product is very good.

LOL ... Define "long time" :)

Long time as in you got your tax return and you wanted it yesterday? :) Or long time as in they said two weeks and it took six? Most of the time we get custom orders from Garhauer before we can schedule time to do the install. The last order was two sets of davits, an engraved boarding ladder, 6 blocks, and a set of Genoa cars ... 10 days! I don't think we've ever waited for more than three weeks for anything ... It took Harken 8 weeks to get four blocks from Italy to Canada ... I guess the airplanes stopped flying ... :)

long time as in 5 weeks when they said 1 week

Every week when I called, Guido would say "next Thursday". If he had been up front about it and said five weeks from the start I would have known what to expect. But, when told one week, I made plans around the timing and so was a bit upset that he kept putting me off. As you are a professional, I would guess they make your orders a priority over the retail trade. Again, I am quite satisfied with the product. Just throwing this out for informational purposes. I've heard the same issue from different people. I would use them again, just temper their stated delivery time.
