Would appreciate any comments, pro or con, on the "marine-ized" Kubota Diesel engine, such as the Phasor Marine P4-37-05 (Kubota V1505E), the Universal M35-B, Beta Marine BV1505, or the Nanni ? I am considering repowering our Hunter 36 and looking at alternatives to the Yanmar engine, so any pros or cons would be helpful if anyone has had any experience with the basic Kubota diesel engine. Thanks, Ernie

Why Ernie?

I, too, have considered repowering. And I did look at the Kubota at the Annapolis show. But unless the price is radically different why would you not use a Yanmar? I have found the Kubotas, Volvos, and Universals to be priced the same. One reason might be physical dimensions. A friend has a 30HP Perkins on his H37C that is significantly smaller than my 2QM20(20hp). But my 20-year old Yanmar still has lots of life. It's bullet-proof.

Good Engine

Bought a 1980 H27 which had the original Renault engine replaced by a 10hp, cylinder Nanni. It seems very reliable. The owner prior to me Used in around Lake Erie a few years, then to and from Florida 6 time from Mass. It is still running strong and I wonder how many other engines have as much time on them. Of course with no hour meter, I have no idea of the hours on it.
