'Jump Rope'

It dosen't take much algae to crud up that wheel and not allow it toget started. Depending on the depth and location of the impeller you may be able to slip a rope under the bow pulpit and releasing a little at a time as you are motoring forward, let the rope slide back till it bumps the paddle wheel. Then slide the rope forward and aft holding it like a jump rope till the knot metter starts regestering.

Connections

Unhook the sensor from the control unit - you might have a co-ax connector. try to clean off the connector pin with a steel wool or other type of abrasive cloth - a fingernal nail brush works well. Take the connector and un-plug and plug it back in several times to try to get a good connection. What you are doing is removing the oxidation off of the contacts every time you plug and unplug it. It works for me when mine gets intermittent.

knotmeters

Old tech I'd use a gps and forget about the paddlewheels..you'll be forever cleaning them..plus I've always been worried about the thru hull, its plastic..not real confident in it..
