Knotmeter impeller failure

I just got back from a wonderful month on the Chesapeake Bay and spent the last three days with no knotmeter. I checked the impeller and found that it is not fouled - and there is no reading on the meter when I spin the impeller. I have a Datamarine S-100KL meter (Corinthian series.) The display is working. (I used the manufacturer's suggestion of shorting the connection to see if the numbers jump.) Any suggestions on troubleshooting before I take the impeller unit to a repair shop? Thanks, BILL

replacement?

Datamarine actually recommends yearly replacement of the impeller for that unit......although, if it spins, I would think it was OK.....

knotmeter

my knot meter is an anolog unit and the impeller has two magnets in the paddlewheel that with time and salt corrosion rust and break out of the paddlewheel. check to see if you can just replace the paddlewheel. i've gotten into the habit of pulling the unit when the boat is idle.
