I just purchased a SpeedMate knot meter (See Speedtech.com for some deals!) This unit collects data magnetically through the hull from a spinning impeller that glues on. No thru-hull holes. I'd like suggestions for where to mount the impeller. They suggest that it be mounted 6 - 18 inched aft of the center board on the center line. Instructions suggest that because of leeway, it will be clear of turbulence from the centerboard. I am skeptical... and am thinking about mounting it forward of the centerboard. Thoughts? Jim, Where were you a month ago?

Jim, I just installed a thru hull knot/depth meter on my H26 last month. By going thru the archives on this site I found the recommended position on the 26 was on each side of the bildge pump under the aft bed. This mounted them outside and far enough behind the centerboard to be in fairly clean water. I just wish I would have seen your article before I drilled those two HUGE,MASSIVE and SCARRY 2 inch holes in a perfectly good boat bottom! Good luck, Ray
