Got one of these for everyone on our boat after running into a survivor in a boating accident in Mission Bay a few years ago. Skipper got caught below with an inflated PFD and only because this gal (that I met right after she was released from the hospital) had given him this knife a week or two before was he able to quickly deflate and get out. Everyone survived but it made a big impression on me.

Deluxe Rigging Knife with marlin spike, shackle key and screwdriver. Made entirely of top quality stainless steel with dura-edged blades.

Spyderco Harpy.

Serrated, sharp, all stainless, shaped like a talon. Grabs and cuts a line in a second (I've only used it in non-emergency applications). Seems that is would double well as a self-defense weapon, for a guy who doesn't really know how to use a knife in self defence - IE slashing and gashing. Good for offshore communites where your firearm will be far away on your moored boat, or at home. And, for use when all else fails, including my feet, in a situation that requires deadly force, which is probably never.
