Can anyone tell me why sailboats as a general rule do not have permanently installedklaxon or air horns like many motorboats?

For what purpose?...

Gotta have a compressor, holding tank, etc. My manual horn works just fine, when I need it in the fog.Terry

Probably the simplest answer is

because they are not required to. Why have one when a bell or whistle will suffice. Remember nothing happens fast in a sailboat so having an instant attention getter is not that necessary and also that would be an additional item to polish.
