My boat has been in the water now for 2 weeks and I have been out a few times with a jib only. Will hang the main next week. Here's what I noticed so far. Boat will never go faster than hull speed under power. The Hunter 31 hull speed is around 7.2 mph, with the 2 blade fix prop I never reached it, got to 6 mph @ 3400 rpm, with black smoke from exhaust. With the Kiwi prop I got to hull speed @ 3200 rpm with very light black smoke. At 3000 rpm the black smoke was gone and doing 6.4 mph. No Vibrations. I idle down and shifted into reverse, then throttle up to 2800 rpm and to boat came to a stop in 1 boat length. WOW! Backing up is unbelievable, I have never gone as fast and straight as I do now. When I was jib only sailing the prop had stopped spinning and I guest feathered as soon as the engine was shifted into neutral. Won't know true improvements on sailing till I get my main up.

We pay to play. . . .

don't we? I mean a lot! I just ordered my second folding prop yesterday, a 3-blade Flex-O-Fold. My 2-blade was terrific but I am changing engines and needed new diameter and pitch. Figured I might as well try a 3-blade this time. The 2-blade was easily worth a half knot sailing, maybe more. And like you said, ran over 6 knots with ease. With only 20hp pushing an 18000# boat(H37C).

kiwi prop also

Glad to hear you are getting good benefit from your Kiwi prop also. I have a l985 H31 with a Kiwi prop on a Yanmar YM30 that I put in last year. My experience has been excellent also. Hull speed is reached easily but stopping within one boat length is very conforting. Backuphas no prop walk also. Have a great sailing year.
