I have a Hunter 33 /2005 with the 29hp engine, and I want to put a Kiwi Prop on it. Any comments as to size. has anyone been through this. It seems that a feathering propis as effective as folding in the Marina Del Rey area, we don't have to usually worry about fouling our props with fishing lines, crab or lobster traps.. We don't race or cruise, maybe a trip to Cat harbor every year or so. just want a bit more speed in the light wind conditions that we usually sail in. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi Paul,...we have had our Kiwi prop installed some 5 years ago on our 2004 Hunter 33 and it has been a really good investment. It really bites when you are coming into dock you can through it into reverse and it stops the boat on a dime without any prop walk. We haven't seen any additional speed in forward on motor but there has been noticeable less vibration. As for sailing, I am sure we get a .5 knt increase in speed as it feathers easily with very little water going over he blades as they are considerable light with no gears to cause any friction.
It is a good investment with out breaking the bank to go with a metal feathering prop with all the gears to maintain. The composite material for the blades may not withstand hitting a rock, however we had a gennaker sheet wrap just in front of the prop on the shaft 2 summers ago with no damage to the prop.

Go with 16" diameter. You should have enough blade angle to adjust to your liking. Of course you should ask Norm of West by North for sizing as well.

When I bought mine, there was a Kiwi rep in Southern California . He recommended 17 inch diameter as the blades are far aft. The factory set the pitch. Works fantastic. Motoring is up 1+ mph! stopping is much better as blades reverse! light air sailing noticeably better.

After much deliberation fitted Kiwi prop to my 2004 Hunter 33. 16.50 x 22 deg pitch. No issues so far and made significant improvement to sailing speed. Also no vibration which tended to happen with fixed prop.
